TV sizes: real dimensions in cm

A TV's size is its diagonal — the actual width and height are smaller than you'd think. A 55-inch TV is about 122 cm wide, not 140. Full chart and viewing-distance guide below.

How far should you sit?

A common guideline for 4K TVs: sit about 1 to 1.5× the diagonal away. For a 55″ (140 cm diagonal) that's roughly 1.4–2.1 m; for a 65″ about 1.7–2.5 m. Sitting further is fine — you just stop seeing the extra 4K detail.
